Beneficial Nematodes
Beneficial Nematodes are microscopic, non-segmented worms that occur naturally in soil throughout the world. Once released, the nematodes seek out their host, enter through body openings, emit a toxin and death occurs within 48 hours. Beneficial Nematodes are shipped in an easily dissolved clay formulation that you mix with water. The solution can be applied directly using a watering can, hose end, backpack, or pump sprayer or through irrigation or misting systems.
How do Beneficial Nematodes Work?
- Nematodes seek and enter hosts in the soil.
- Nematodes release bacteria which paralyze and kill the host
- Nematodes reproduce and feed upon the host while undergoing several life cycles
- Second stage juveniles develop waxy cuticles and leave the cadaver in search of a new host
Beneficial Nematode Facts:
- Nematodes will eliminate all types of pests that have a subterranean soil stage.
- Nematodes are exempt from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations because they are not harmful to humans or animals.
