Where Do Fly Larva Exist?

Actually fly larva live anywhere! Wherever there are nutrients and moisture, fly larva exist. Obvious locations are in in manure areas, but also feeding areas, silage storage, crevices along the side of barns and buildings, gardening areas, compost areas and dead animals.

How Do Fly Parasites Work?

Not in any way! Fly parasites were discovered four decades ago and have been sold for fly control purposes for the last 30 years. If there are no fly larva present, the parasites naturally die off; they are non-toxic and they do not bother livestock or plants.

If Fly Parasites Reproduce, Why Are Periodic Shipments Needed?

The reproduction cycle of fly parasites helps greatly; but their reproductive abilities do not occur in required quantities to keep flies in check in “rich fly producing environments like farms, zoos and diaries (where there is lot of manure, dead animal matter, etc.). Flies also are more reproductive than fly parasites. One adult fly can lay enough eggs to produce up to 1000 flies. Periodic shipments and regular application keep flies reproduction from reaching stages that become difficult to manage.

When Should Fly Control Be Started?

Ideally treatment plans should be started 1-2 weeks before you normally see flies; However starting later will also work. Parasite fly wasps will begin stinging the fly larva whenever present after you add them to your environment. Remember, the fly larva is their food and nesting source. What If The Fly Parasites Are Not Hatched When I Get Them?

Fly parasites are developed in egg form all year at our facilities and then placed in cool storage for seasonal shipments. During shipment in warmer weather they incubate. Some parasites may be hatched when received. In all cases, when you receive your shipment, we recommend you release them. When your weather was warm enough for fly emergence, the fly parasites will hatch and become effective.

Are There Different Species Of Parasites?

Yes. There are several types. We mixed together these types to best match your area to provide you with the most effective species combination.

Do Fly Sprays Kill Parasites?

Yes, fly spray can kill parasites if sprayed directly on them, but not if the parasite wasps are placed outside of sprayers – so they can be compatible.

What Percentage of Flies Will Parasites Control?

Using fly parasites at Knockout Plan levels, you can expect between 70 and 90% effectiveness depending on conditions and your following our program plan which provides adequate and regular use of parasites. Is Constant Use Required?

A repetitive and scheduled release of parasites (a.k.a. following the program plan) definitely ensures the continual disruption of fly reproduction. Bi-weekly application is recommended, and for Dairies, weekly application is recommended.

Will Fly Parasites Leave and Migrate To Neighbors Farms?

Usually the fly parasites stay within 300 yards of their release and will typically only migrate if all of your fly larva have been stung.

If I Have Existing Flies How Long Will It Take To See An Affect?

First, if you have existing flies, purchase and activate solar traps immediately and second, release the fly parasites. The traps will catch existing flies and reduce reproductive pressure. The fly parasites when hatched will start stinging fly larva. You should see results within a week and significant results in 2 to 3 weeks.
